The defense is the difference in character. In Kan Jam your partner is on your side — they tip your throw into the goal, and the game is cooperative within a team. In Polish horseshoes the other side is trying to catch what you knock down, and the best moments are desperate dives for a falling bottle. One is a sport; the other is a party.

  • A party. It is played with a drink in the other hand, and the catch makes it loud and funny.
  • A skill ladder. Move the poles from 20 to 30 to 40 feet as the group gets better — something Kan Jam's fixed distance does not allow.

What is the difference between Kan Jam and Polish horseshoes?
The target and the defense. In Kan Jam you throw at a can and your partner deflects the disc into it; you play to exactly 21. In Polish horseshoes you throw to knock a bottle off the opposing pole, and the defender tries to catch the bottle or disc before it lands.
How far apart are the targets?
Kan Jam publishes 50 feet between goals. Polish horseshoes has no governing body; Triumph publishes 20, 30 or 40 foot courts for its Bottle Battle set depending on skill. So Polish horseshoes fits a smaller yard.
Which is better for a tailgate?
Both travel well. Polish horseshoes sets up in under a minute by Triumph's published figure and its short courts suit a parking lot. Kan Jam's goals nest together but want 50 feet between them.
Which is more family-friendly?
Kan Jam. Its published rules suit a mixed group and the target does not fall. Polish horseshoes asks the defender to catch a falling bottle and a disc at once, which suits adults rather than young children.
