Cornhole has the most standardized equipment in yard games, and that is genuinely good news for a buyer: the American Cornhole League publishes the board size, the hole size, the hole position, the board heights, the court distance and the bag weight. Any set that says “regulation” is claiming those numbers, and they are checkable with a tape measure.
Which means the interesting question is not is it regulation — most sets in the category are. It is what is the surface made of, what is the frame made of, and what is in the bags. Those three answers determine whether you are buying something for two summers or ten.

Two of those numbers are worth internalizing because sellers get them wrong. The hole is measured from the back edge, not the top of the frame, and the court is measured front to front, not stake to stake or back to back. A set that puts the hole 9 inches from the top edge of the frame rather than the board is subtly off, and it changes how a bag behaves at the lip.

How to choose
The three material decisions that decide durability
1. Surface: half-inch plywood, or MDF
The ACA-regulation surface is half-inch varnished cabinet-grade plywood. Victory Tailgate publishes 15 mm furniture-grade plywood, which is within a hair of the same thing. MDF is the budget alternative: flat, cheap, smooth, and permanently ruined by one wet night. If a listing does not name the surface material, assume MDF.
2. Frame: solid wood with real joinery, or stapled softwood
A cornhole board is a drum. When a bag lands short and the frame is thin, the board bounces and the bag skitters off. The two published fixes are more mass and more bracing: Victory Tailgate publishes dual cross-beam construction and a 46 lb set weight; GoSports publishes solid pine with mitered corners at 38 lb. Both are honest answers. What you do not want is a set with no published weight at all — it is almost always light.
3. Bag fill: resin or plastic pellets, not corn
Traditional corn fill rots when it gets wet, and it will get wet. Every set worth buying now uses recycled plastic or resin pellets, and the makers say so on the listing. This is the single cheapest durability upgrade in the category, and it is usually already made for you.
4. Legs: bolts, not hinges
Retractable legs held by 3/8 inch galvanized steel bolts and wing nuts will outlast a stamped hinge by years. The bolt design also lets you snug the legs when they start to wobble; a racked hinge cannot be fixed.

Fits your yard, fits your crowd
Cornhole is 33 by 10 feet and four players at most. Before you commit, check it against the space and the group you actually have:
- Small yards — if your longest run is under 30 feet, this is the wrong game and we say which one is right.
- Big lawns — with room to spare, cornhole is often better as one of two setups rather than the only one.
- Games for adults — cornhole is the anchor of this list.
- Large groups — four players and a queue. Read this before buying for a crowd.
- Backyard BBQ and tailgating — the two occasions cornhole was built for.
