| # | Product | Best for | Score | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Innova Disc Golf Starter Set (3 Disc) The three discs a course actually asks for — a DX Leopard driver, a DX Shark mid-range and a DX Aviar putter — all PDGA approved, in the grippy beginner plastic Innova names for the purpose. | Best first set of discs | 6.8/10 | |
| 2 | HIMAL Disc Golf Backpack, 22+ Disc Capacity Twenty-two discs on your back for under thirty dollars. It publishes the one number that decides whether a bag lasts more than a season — capacity — and 22 is roughly where a committed player's collection settles. | Best overall | 8.2/10 | $26.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 3 | Innova DISCatcher GO Portable Disc Golf Target The newest portable Innova target and the one whose numbers you can look up: the PDGA approved it at Basic level in 2026 and publishes every dimension, down to a 17.0 cm tray depth. | Best on the PDGA list | 8.3/10 | $129.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 4 | Innova Adventure Pack Disc Golf Backpack, 25 Discs The only bag here from a company that also makes PDGA-approved discs and targets, and the only one that ships a mini marker in the box — which matters because a mini is what marks a lie and is the most commonly forgotten item in the sport. | Best from a disc maker | 8.4/10 | $49.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 5 | Dynamic Discs Prime Burst EMAC Judge Putter, 173-176 g The heaviest published window on this page and the cheapest disc on it — which is the right combination for a putter, because a putter's whole job is to stop where it lands rather than travel. | Best heavy putter | 7.9/10 |
Verdict: for somebody who has never played, buy the three-disc Innova starter set — it is the cheapest thing on this page and the only gift here that a beginner definitely does not already own. For somebody who already plays, buy a bag: the HIMAL for value at a published 22-plus discs, or the Innova Adventure Pack if you want a mini marker in the box. The portable DISCatcher GO target is the best gift on this page if your budget reaches it, because it is the only one that changes what they can do at home. A single putter is the stocking filler.
Prices on this page are live and the date they were read is printed under every buy button. Disc golf gear moves in price more than most categories on this site, so check the figure rather than trusting a band we wrote weeks ago.
The only question that matters
Buy by how much they already play
Every other gift page on this site has to work around a problem: you cannot measure somebody else's garden. Our guide to yard games as gifts is built entirely on that constraint, because cornhole needs 33 feet of clear run and giant wooden games need indoor storage.
Disc golf is the exception, and it is why it is such a good gift. The course is a public park. The discs fit in a coat pocket. The only thing that needs a yard is a putting target, and that needs a few feet. So the question is not how much space they have — it is how far into the sport they already are.
| If they… | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| have never thrown a disc | 3-disc starter set | Driver, mid-range and putter, each with published PDGA approval. They own none of it. |
| own a few discs and a plastic bag | HIMAL 22-disc backpack | Highest published capacity at its price. The purchase they keep putting off. |
| play weekly and lose their marker | Innova Adventure Pack | 25 discs published, and the only bag here stating a mini marker is included. |
| play regularly with nowhere to putt | DISCatcher GO portable target | On the PDGA approved list at Basic level, with every dimension published. |
| need something small | A single putter | The disc thrown on every hole. Published at 173-176 g, standard adult weight. |
The honest half
Who should skip each of these
- Skip the starter set for anyone who already plays. They will have a driver, a mid-range and a putter already, and better ones.
- Skip both bags for a beginner. A 22-disc backpack holding three discs is a slightly comic gift, and the money is better spent on the discs to fill it.
- Skip the DISCatcher GO if they have no outdoor space at all. It is a target that needs ground, and unlike the discs it does assume a lawn.
- Skip the putter as a main present. It is deliberately a filler — for a child, buy a lighter disc from our disc golf for kids page instead, because 173 grams is an adult disc.

The three discs a course actually asks for — a DX Leopard driver, a DX Shark mid-range and a DX Aviar putter — all PDGA approved, in the grippy beginner plastic Innova names for the purpose.
Skip this if
Skip this if you were expecting somewhere to throw at. A disc set is not a course: Innova publishes no basket with it, and a backyard game needs a target you buy or improvise separately.
What works
- PDGA approval is published for every disc, which is rare at the starter end
- Three named models rather than an unspecified assortment, so you can look up each flight
- DX plastic is the one Innova itself recommends for a first set
- Packs into a pocket — comfortably the smallest game on the whole site
What does not
- No published disc weights on the maker's set page, and weight is the spec that most changes how a disc flies
- No basket, so the set on its own is a throwing activity rather than a game
- Nothing published about footprint, which for disc golf is the whole planning question

Skip this if
Skip this if you want drinks kept cold. There is no insulated compartment, and on a summer round that is the feature people wish they had paid for.
What works
- Published capacity of 22+ discs covers a full collection
- Backpack straps rather than a single shoulder

The newest portable Innova target and the one whose numbers you can look up: the PDGA approved it at Basic level in 2026 and publishes every dimension, down to a 17.0 cm tray depth.
Skip this if
Skip this if you want a target that plays like a course basket. At 17.0 cm deep it sits below the 18 cm minimum the PDGA sets for its Standard and Championship levels, which is exactly why it is a Basic target.
What works
- On the PDGA approved target list, so the badge on the box can be checked rather than trusted
- Every dimension is published by the PDGA, which almost no portable basket manages
- 24 chains in total is a real catching assembly, not a token one
- Carrying bag included, so it is genuinely portable rather than nominally portable
What does not
- Basic approval, not Standard or Championship — a 17.0 cm tray is below the 18 cm those levels require
- Innova does not publish a set weight, which is the figure that decides whether you carry it to a park
- Approved dimensions describe the target, not how fast it goes up

The only bag here from a company that also makes PDGA-approved discs and targets, and the only one that ships a mini marker in the box — which matters because a mini is what marks a lie and is the most commonly forgotten item in the sport.
Skip this if
Skip this if capacity is all you are buying. It holds 25 discs against the HIMAL's 22 for nearly twice the money, and the extra is the brand and the included mini.
What works
- Includes a mini marker, which no other bag here does
- Made by the manufacturer of the PDGA-approved DISCatcher targets
- 25-disc published capacity
What does not
- Roughly twice the price of the HIMAL for three more discs of capacity
- No cooler
- No published weight or dimensions

The heaviest published window on this page and the cheapest disc on it — which is the right combination for a putter, because a putter's whole job is to stop where it lands rather than travel.
Skip this if
Skip this if you are buying one disc for a child. At 173 to 176 grams it is the heaviest thing here, and a putter that heavy simply will not carry for a slow arm.
What works
- Publishes a 3-gram weight window, the tightest on this page
- Heavy is the correct answer for a putter, and this is the heaviest published option here
- The least expensive disc on this page by a clear margin
- A second brand, so the weight argument is not an Innova-only observation
What does not
- Dynamic Discs publishes no description of what Prime Burst plastic is on this listing
- No flight numbers and no diameter published
- Too heavy to be anyone's only disc

We have not played these. Every figure above is copied from a manufacturer's published listing or a governing body's published rules, and named so you can verify it. Where a maker publishes nothing, the field is blank rather than filled in. How we pick explains the whole method, including what would change a recommendation.
