| 1 | Lenwen 29 in Mini Disc Golf Baskets with 10 Discs Two targets and ten discs for less than one adult basket, at a published 29 inches tall — several inches under the height the PDGA publishes for an approved target, which is the entire point for a child. | Best complete kids set | 8.1/10 | |
| 2 | MVP Black Hole Mini 24-Chain Basket, 26.5 in The only short basket here that publishes a chain count: 24, the same number MVP puts on its full-height Black Hole Lite. A child gets a target that catches like a real one, at a published 26.5 inches. | Best target on its own | 8.4/10 | $59.95 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 3 | Chuckle & Roar Family Disc Golf, Ages 3 and Up The only junior disc golf product here that publishes an age floor — ages 3 and up — and the only one stated to work indoors, which from mid-October is where a three-year-old is going to be playing. | Best published age floor | 7.6/10 | $32.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 4 | Discraft 145 Gram J-Star Sport Disc Thirty grams lighter than the Ultrastar and one of only two discs USA Ultimate approves at Youth level — the governing body's own answer to what a child should throw. | Best for children | 8.2/10 | $9.20 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 5 | Innova DX Shark Mid-Range, 140-150 g The same Shark mold as the 170 to 174 gram listing, 30 grams lighter. Buying both is the only honest way to find out what disc weight does to your own throw, because nothing else about the disc changes. | Best light mid-range | 7.6/10 | $14.49 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
Verdict: buy the Lenwen set. Two targets and ten discs at a published 29 inches tall costs less than one adult basket, and two targets is what turns a lawn into a course with more than one hole. Buy the MVP Black Hole Mini instead if you want a target that catches properly — it is the only short basket publishing a chain count, 24 of them — and the Chuckle & Roar set if the child is very small, because it is the only product here that publishes an age floor and the only one stated to work indoors. Whichever target you choose, buy a light disc separately: 145 grams, not 175.
This site has a kids-set page for bocce, croquet, cornhole, roundnet, badminton and lawn bowling. Disc golf had none, which is odd, because it is the cheapest game we cover and the one with the least to go wrong in a small yard.
Height and weight
The two numbers that matter
Disc golf for a child is not a scaled-down version of the adult game. It is the same game with two specifications changed, and both of them are published figures you can check.
| Target | Published height | Chains | Discs included | Age floor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lenwen junior set (x2) | 29 in | — | 10 | — |
| MVP Black Hole Mini | 26.5 in | 24 | None | — |
| Chuckle & Roar family set | — | — | — | 3 and up |
| Innova DISCatcher GO (approved) | 82.4 cm (about 32.4 in) | 12 outer, 12 inner | None | — |
| Innova DISCatcher Traveler (approved) | 85.0 cm (about 33.5 in) | — | None | — |
Read the first two rows against the last two. A junior basket is roughly four to seven inches lower than the approved portable targets we have measured. A child throwing at an approved-height rim is throwing upward at something above their shoulder; at 29 inches they are throwing at it. That is the entire product category.
The disc side is simpler and the mistake is more common. An adult mid-range runs about 170 to 175 grams. Hand that to a seven-year-old and it does not fly, it falls — there is not enough arm speed behind it to generate lift. The two discs on this page publish 145 grams and 140 to 150 grams, and our guide to disc weight explains why that changes the flight rather than just the effort.
The honest gap
Chains are the spec nobody publishes
A disc golf basket catches because chains absorb the disc's energy and drop it into the tray. Fewer chains, or thinner ones, means more discs hitting and bouncing out — which for a child is the difference between a game and a frustration.
Of the three junior targets here, one publishes a chain count. The MVP Black Hole Mini states 24, which is the same number MVP publishes for its full-height Black Hole Lite. The other two publish none. We are not going to guess at theirs, and we would rather say plainly that the cheaper complete sets have an unpublished catch rate than invent a figure for them.
When to skip this page
What about an older child?
If the child is nine or older and reasonably sporty, this page may be the wrong one. A 29-inch target gets outgrown within a season or two, and an approved-height portable target does not — so the money is arguably better spent on a full-height basket from our disc golf baskets page, which the whole household can then use.
Keep the light disc either way. Disc weight is about arm speed, not age, and a 145-gram disc stays the right disc until that arm speed arrives. Our basket dimensions guide has the approved figures in full if you want to check a target before buying it.

Two targets and ten discs for less than one adult basket, at a published 29 inches tall — several inches under the height the PDGA publishes for an approved target, which is the entire point for a child.
Skip this if
Skip this if an adult will play on it too. At 29 inches it is a short target, and the listing publishes no chain count, so how well it actually catches a disc is unstated.
What works
- Two targets, so a backyard course has more than one hole
- Ten discs included — a child will lose some
- Publishes a height, which most mini targets do not
What does not
- No published chain count, and chains are what make a target catch
- No published disc weight, so you cannot check it is light enough
- No published age floor

Skip this if
Skip this if you need discs too — it is a target only, and it costs more than the complete Lenwen set with ten discs in the box.
What works
- Publishes 24 chains — the spec that decides whether a disc stays in
- From a maker whose full-size targets appear on the PDGA approved list
- Published height of 26.5 in
What does not
- Target only, no discs
- More expensive than a complete two-basket kids set

The only junior disc golf product here that publishes an age floor — ages 3 and up — and the only one stated to work indoors, which from mid-October is where a three-year-old is going to be playing.
Skip this if
Skip this if you want anything resembling the real game. It is a soft introduction with no published target height or disc weight, so it will not prepare anyone for a course basket.
What works
- Publishes an age floor, which nothing else in the junior category does
- Stated for indoor as well as outdoor play
- Cheapest complete set with a target here
What does not
- No published target height, chain count or disc weight
- Not a scaled-down version of the real game

Thirty grams lighter than the Ultrastar and one of only two discs USA Ultimate approves at Youth level — the governing body's own answer to what a child should throw.
Skip this if
Skip this if adults will use it in wind. Lighter discs are easier to throw and worse at holding a line, which is exactly the trade that makes it right for children and wrong for a windy field.
What works
- Youth-level approval published by the governing body, not a marketing age range
- 145 g is a real 30 g lighter than the adult standard, which a child feels immediately
- Same shape and rim profile as the adult disc, so the throw transfers
- The cheapest pick here
What does not
- Light enough that wind moves it noticeably
- No published diameter or age floor on the listing
- Adults who learn on it will have to relearn the weight later

The same Shark mold as the 170 to 174 gram listing, 30 grams lighter. Buying both is the only honest way to find out what disc weight does to your own throw, because nothing else about the disc changes.
Skip this if
Skip this if you already throw hard. A light mid-range in a strong arm turns over early and finishes well left of the target, and the heavier window of the same mold costs less.
What works
- Identical mold to the heavy Shark, so weight is the only variable between them
- A 10-gram window at the light end, where very little publishes anything
- Easier to get distance from at low arm speed than any heavier mid-range
What does not
- A 10-gram window is wider than the heavy listing's 4 grams, so you know less about what arrives
- Costs more than the heavier version of the same disc
- Light discs are worse in wind, full stop

Why you can check our work
We have not played these. Every figure above is copied from a manufacturer's published listing or a governing body's published rules, and named so you can verify it.
