The short answer: buy on diameter against the number of children you actually have. A 10 foot pit is published for 2 to 6 players, 15 feet for 6 to 12, and 20 feet for 12 to 20. Wall height is published only by the commercial timber makers — 12 inch borders, 28 inches overall at Kay Park — and by none of the portable ones.
There is no governing body and no official pit, so everything below is a named manufacturer's published figure rather than a regulation. The rules themselves are on gaga ball rules.
The spec that decides the game
Diameter against players
| Nominal size | Published players | Published interior (commercial timber) |
|---|---|---|
| 10 ft | 2 to 6 | Not offered at this size |
| 15 ft | 6 to 12 | 13 ft 6 in across the flats |
| 20 ft | 12 to 20 | 19 ft across the flats |
| 26 ft | Not published | 24 ft 4 in across the flats |
Two things follow from that table. First, the nominal size is not the play area: a polygon measured across its flats is smaller than its stated diameter, and Kay Park publishes both so you can see the gap. Second, the jump from 10 to 15 feet roughly doubles the published capacity, which is why 15 feet is the size most schools and camps land on.
The missing spec
Wall height, and why nobody publishes it
The commercial installed pits publish a wall: Kay Park states 12 inch high borders with an overall installed height of 28 inches, built from timber and stanchions, with an ADA gate included at every size. Portable pits publish nothing. GoSports lists diameter, player count, weight, ball size, setup time and surfaces for both Gagagon models, and leaves wall height and panel count blank.
It matters for one practical reason: the wall is the only thing keeping the ball in play. A low wall means the ball leaves the pit, somebody chases it, and the pace that makes gaga worth owning disappears. If you are choosing between portable pits and cannot compare wall heights, compare the next best proxy — weight, which GoSports does publish at 15 lb for the Gagagon Go and a stated 25 lb for the Gagagon (the listing does not say which size).
Siting it
The ground around the pit
| Consideration | What is published | What it means on the day |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Under 5 minutes, no tools or electricity | A portable pit can live in the garage between parties |
| Surfaces | Rubber feet for multiple surfaces | Grass, patio or gym floor; not a slope |
| Entry | Built-in low step entrance on the Gagagon | Players get in without climbing the wall |
| Safety | Protective foam pole toppers on the Gagagon | Head height on the uprights is the real hazard, not the ball |
| Ball | 7 in ball (Gagagon Go); two 8.5 in balls (Gagagon) | Both ship with a pump |
Level ground is not optional for an octagonal pit: on a slope, the uphill wall sits low enough to step over and the downhill wall collects every loose ball. Leveling ground for yard games covers what is worth fixing. If the pit is going to live outside all season, the weather question is in weatherproof yard games.
Before you measure
Is the space worth it
A 15 or 20 foot circle is a large permanent claim on a garden, and the honest answer for most households is that it is only worth it with six or more children in the yard regularly. We argue that case fully in is a gaga ball pit worth it, and the ranked sets are in best gaga ball pit.

Skip this if
Skip this if it will live in one small yard for one family. The point of this model is the 15 and 20 foot sizes; at 10 feet the lighter Gagagon Go does the same job.

A 10-foot portable gaga pit on a powder-coated steel frame with netting walls, published at 15 pounds for 2 to 6 players, with a 7-inch ball and pump, set up in under five minutes without tools.
Skip this if
Skip this for a camp or a school group. GoSports publishes 2 to 6 players for the 10-foot size; a group of fifteen needs a larger pit, not a bigger crowd in a small one.
What works
- A published 15 lb weight — genuinely portable for a pit
- Works on blacktop and driveways as well as grass
- Tool-free setup in under five minutes, published
- Ball and pump included
What does not
- No published wall height, which decides whether the ball stays in
- Netting walls rebound differently from solid panels
- Two to six players at 10 ft — a birthday party outgrows it fast

Why you can check our work
We have not played these. Every figure above is copied from a manufacturer's published listing or a governing body's published rules, and named so you can verify it. Where a maker publishes nothing, the field is blank rather than filled in. How we pick explains the whole method, including what would change a recommendation.
