Gaga ball is the schoolyard game most adults have never heard of and most children under twelve are obsessed with. It is dodgeball in an enclosed pit, the ball is struck with the hand rather than thrown, and you are out if it touches you below the knee. That last rule is what makes it good: nobody gets a ball in the face, and a small child can beat a large one.
The field games hub describes it as high capacity and low athleticism, and that is its case. It takes a whole group at once, and it eliminates them one by one, so the game always has an end.

The player count is the decision. A 10-foot pit holds six children comfortably and gets chaotic at eight. If you are buying for a birthday party, a youth group or a street of children, the 15-foot size and its published 6 to 12 players is the real answer, and the larger Gagagon is the model that offers it.
Both publish a weight, which makes this one of the better-specified categories on the site — 15 pounds for the Go, and a stated 25 pounds for the larger pit, though that listing does not say which size the figure applies to. Either way, one adult can carry it.

Portable, or build your own?
The traditional gaga pit is a wooden octagon: eight boards, bracket kits, a weekend and a permanent patch of dead grass. It is cheaper per player and it lasts for years — and it is a landscaping decision, not a purchase. The case for building one is in setting up a permanent games area.
A portable pit is the opposite trade: it costs more per player, it packs away in under five minutes, and the lawn recovers. For a household that plays at parties rather than every day, portable wins. Whether a pit earns its place at all is its own question — is a gaga ball pit worth it.
