Every other page in this section is about a party. A field day is a timetable, and that changes the selection criteria completely: a game is good here if it has high throughput, near-zero reset time, no rules to teach, and no component that will be lost or broken by three o'clock.
The maths
Throughput is the whole problem
A station has a group and a slot. If the game takes four players and the group is twenty, sixteen children are watching — which is the definition of a bad station regardless of how good the game is.
Only two things in this catalogue publish a player count above four: flag football at 8 and kubb at 2 to 12. Everything else needs a rotation inside the station.
The alternative is a game where a turn is measured in seconds rather than minutes. Giant yard dice publish 2 or more with no upper limit and a turn is one roll. Molkky is one throw per player from a single line at a published 3 to 4 metres. Ladder toss is three bolas. All three move a queue quickly even though only one child is acting at a time.

High capacity
Flag football is the station that justifies a whole field
The Franklin set we cover publishes eight 34-inch belts with two flags each — four red and four yellow — plus a bean bag field marker and a carry bag. Eight players is double what almost anything else here takes.
Two published details matter at a field day specifically. The belt length of 34 inches is a number you can check against the children before ordering. And the fact that the entire belt detaches when a flag is pulled means the down is never disputed — but the reset is slower, which with a queue behind you is a real cost. Budget for it.

Durability
What survives a whole day
A field day puts more use through a set in six hours than a household does in a season, and the failure modes are predictable from the material.
- Pine dents. Yard Games publishes sustainably sourced New Zealand pine across its range, and pine is soft. Expect cosmetic damage.
- Small parts vanish. Bolas, pallinos, discs and bean-bag markers all walk. Count them at the start and at the end — see replacing lost yard game parts.
- Hardwood is the exception. Kubb publishes solid hardwood, which is why it survives being thrown by a hundred children in a way pine does not.
