| # | Product | Best for | Score | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ApudArmis 9-Piece Croquet Wickets, 8 x 6.3 in The only replacement wickets on sale that publish a size — 8 by 6.3 inches — plus nine of them, a plastic coating against rust and a round top instead of a cut wire end at shin height. | Best overall | 8.5/10 | $9.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 2 | ApudArmis Croquet Ball Replacement Set, 6 Balls Six balls in the six colors a nine-wicket game needs, at well under the price of a complete set — the right purchase when one ball has gone into a hedge and the mallets are all fine. | Best overall | 7.8/10 | $22.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 3 | AmishToyBox Flag Croquet Mallet, 32 in Handle A published 32-inch handle and a polymer head, made in Lancaster County — the only way to replace one broken mallet without buying a six-player set you do not need. | Best single mallet | 8.2/10 | $75.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 4 | PRAMOON Croquet Wickets, Set of 9, Thick Steel Wire Thick steel wire is the one claim that matters on a wicket, because the failure mode is not rust but bending when a mallet clips it — and this is the only listing that leads with gauge rather than coating. | Best for hard ground | 7.5/10 | $19.98 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
| 5 | ApudArmis Croquet Ball Set for 6 Players The same maker's six-ball replacement listed explicitly for a six-player game, which is the listing to pick if the colors in the cheaper pack do not match the set you are topping up. | Alternative color set | 7.4/10 | $29.99 · View on Amazon Price as of October 19, 2026. #ad How we make money |
Verdict: buy the ApudArmis wickets. They are the only replacement wickets on sale that publish a size, there are nine of them for the standard backyard layout, and the rounded top is a real safety improvement on a cut wire end at shin height. For balls, buy the cheaper ApudArmis six-pack — it publishes the same nothing as the pricier one and costs less. For a single broken mallet, the AmishToyBox mallet is the only one publishing a handle length, at 32 inches. Buy the PRAMOON wickets only if you have bent a set already and want thicker wire over a published size.
Croquet has the largest published footprint of any game we cover and one of the highest prices, which makes it the game where replacing a part instead of a set saves the most money. It is also the game where a replacement part can change the rules without anybody noticing.
The finding
Six inches of wicket is not a detail
The width of a wicket is the difficulty setting of croquet. A sanctioned hoop is sized so that a ball passes through with very little clearance — running a hoop is a skill, and a shot that is slightly off is rejected. The ApudArmis replacement wickets publish 8 by 6.3 inches, and 6.3 inches is a wide gap for a croquet ball.
The practical effect is that almost every hoop becomes makeable from almost anywhere, which removes most of the positional play from the game. For a garden game with children and drinks, that is arguably the right choice — our croquet sets for kids page makes a similar argument about age floors. For anyone playing the game as a game, it is a meaningful change, and the fact that it arrives silently inside a replacement part is worth knowing.
| Part | Count | Published size | Material | Notes published |

The honest gap
Balls publish nothing at all
Across the three replacement ball sets here, the published specification is a count and a list of colors. No diameter. No weight. No material. That is a problem specific to replacement parts, because a ball bought to join five others has to behave like them — a lighter or smaller ball takes a croquet shot differently and rolls differently on the same lawn.
There is no way to solve this from the listings, so the practical advice is the boring one: replace all six at once. All three sets here are sold as six, which is the full complement for the six-player nine-wicket game, so you are not paying extra for the certainty. Keep whichever of the old balls are undamaged as spares.
The two ApudArmis sets are worth a word, because they are confusing. They publish the same specification — six balls, six colors, nothing else — and differ in price. One is described for a yard game and one for a six-player game. Unless the colors in the cheaper pack clash with what you already own, buy the cheaper pack.
The arithmetic
When to stop replacing and buy a set
Replacement parts are good value until they are not, and croquet has a clear crossover point because the mallet is the expensive part.
- One bent wicket, or all nine. Always replace. A nine-wicket pack costs less than most single mallets and far less than a set.
- One or two lost balls. Replace all six. The pack price is close enough to individual balls that matching is free.
- One broken mallet. Replace it. One mallet is roughly a third of a complete six-player set.
- Three or more broken mallets. Buy a new set from our croquet sets roundup and keep the old wickets and stakes as spares. Three single mallets cost more than a complete set that includes balls and wickets too.

The only replacement wickets on sale that publish a size — 8 by 6.3 inches — plus nine of them, a plastic coating against rust and a round top instead of a cut wire end at shin height.
Skip this if
Skip this if you are rebuilding a court to play a sanctioned game. At 6.3 in wide these are far wider than a regulation hoop, so balls pass through that should have been turned away.
What works
- Publishes a wicket size — the only replacement set here that does
- Nine wickets, the full nine-wicket layout
- Rounded top rather than a cut wire end
What does not
- 6.3 in is much wider than a regulation hoop, so the game plays easier
- No published wire gauge, and gauge is what stops a wicket bending
- No USCA figure quoted

Six balls in the six colors a nine-wicket game needs, at well under the price of a complete set — the right purchase when one ball has gone into a hedge and the mallets are all fine.
Skip this if
Skip this if you need to match an existing ball exactly. No diameter is published, and a mismatched ball rolls differently from the five it is joining.
What works
- Six colors matches a full six-player nine-wicket game
- A fraction of the cost of replacing the whole set
- Cheaper than the hardwood alternatives
What does not
- No published diameter, so matching an existing set is guesswork
- No published weight or material
- No USCA figure quoted on the listing

A published 32-inch handle and a polymer head, made in Lancaster County — the only way to replace one broken mallet without buying a six-player set you do not need.
Skip this if
Skip this if more than one mallet is broken. At this price two of them cost more than most complete six-player croquet sets, including the balls and wickets you would also get.
What works
- Publishes a handle length, which almost no mallet listing does
- Sold singly, so one broken mallet costs one mallet
- Polymer head will not split the way a cheap wooden head does
What does not
- Two of them cost more than a complete six-player set
- No published head weight or dimensions
- Stock was limited when we checked

Thick steel wire is the one claim that matters on a wicket, because the failure mode is not rust but bending when a mallet clips it — and this is the only listing that leads with gauge rather than coating.
Skip this if
Skip this if you want to check that claim. Thick is the whole specification — no gauge, no wire diameter and no wicket size is published anywhere on the listing.
What works
- Leads on wire thickness, which is the real wicket failure mode
- Nine wickets for the full layout
- Plain metal hoops with nothing to peel
What does not
- Publishes no size at all, unlike the ApudArmis set
- Thick is unquantified
- Twice the price of the cheapest nine-wicket packs

The same maker's six-ball replacement listed explicitly for a six-player game, which is the listing to pick if the colors in the cheaper pack do not match the set you are topping up.
Skip this if
Skip this if the cheaper ApudArmis pack already matches — the two publish the same specification and differ mainly in price.
What works
- Stated for a six-player game, so the color count is unambiguous
- Same maker as the cheaper pack, so quality is a known quantity
- Still far cheaper than a complete croquet set
What does not
- Costs more than the maker's other six-ball pack for no published difference
- No published diameter or weight
- No USCA figure quoted
